Why experienced gardeners tie garlic feathers into knots: not everyone knows about this

Surely many have seen how experienced summer residents sometimes tie garlic feathers into knots at their summer cottages.

Not everyone knows why they do this.

Some people think it's just a strange village habit. But that's a misconception.

As it turns out, this is a very useful trick, notes Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert at the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer.

Why do you tie garlic leaves into a knot?

As it turns out, this procedure should be carried out approximately seven days before the planned harvest date. If you don't do this, you can lose a good garlic harvest.

The procedure helps the garlic "focus" on forming a large, strong head that stores well.

Onions, for example, do not have such a need, since the crop "understands" well that the time has come to form the harvest. But garlic does not have this feature.

The crop may continue to feed the feathers instead of putting all its energy into developing the garlic head. So it's better to play it safe and tie a knot from the feathers.
