Summer residents in most cases try to grow seedlings themselves. Some representatives of the gardening community do not see anything wrong with buying a plant at the market.
But what are the chances of getting a rich harvest from a purchased strong and lush bush?
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, explained why it is better to grow seedlings yourself.
Having a greenhouse and timely grown seedlings allows you to transplant plants into the ground in a timely manner and get a harvest earlier. This applies to all heat-loving crops.
There is no guarantee that the plants you buy are ready for transplantation, that they will grow in your climate, or maybe they have been left too long?
It is unlikely that there is a gardener who can distinguish two different varieties of cucumbers or other vegetables at the seedling stage by their appearance.
But this is not the worst thing, because you can buy seedlings grown from a hybrid plant (F1). In this case, you may not get a harvest at all.
The seedlings will take root and bear fruit abundantly if they were grown in compliance with the watering schedule, fertilizing, etc.
But seedlings can be fed with harmful substances, they can be grown from diseased and infected seeds or in contaminated soil, or perhaps the seedlings were not hardened off and will die after planting.
Growing seedlings yourself, especially from seeds collected from varietal plants, is much cheaper than buying the required number of ready-made seedlings.
