Not only geranium can bloom in winter on the windowsill, pleasing the eye of the gardener. A real winter decoration is the Decembrist.
The plant is also called Christmas cactus, and all thanks to the peculiarity of blooming for winter celebrations. For this to happen, the flower needs to be fed.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told us how to feed the Decembrist in November.
Around this time, buds begin to form, and without phosphorus and potassium, you can’t count on lush flowering.
You can use mineral and organic fertilizers.
1. You will need 1/3 teaspoon of succinic acid, 1 teaspoon of monopotassium phosphate, 3 liters of water. Dissolve the ingredients and use for watering once every 2 weeks.
2. You can prepare a fertilizer from boric acid (1/4 teaspoon per 1 liter of water), used for spraying once every 3-4 weeks.
3. Organic fertilizer is prepared from apples and pomegranate peels, poured with water and the infusion is used for watering.
Firstly, during budding the air temperature should not be below 12-14 degrees. During flowering 15 degrees minimum.
Secondly, the plant does not forgive dampness. It is watered when the top layer of soil dries, i.e. approximately once every 4 days.
Thirdly, the Decembrist needs a spacious pot and diffused light.
