When covering strawberries for the winter, you need to follow certain rules, otherwise you can lose the harvest.

How to properly cover strawberries for the winter and what should not be done, says the expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

How to cover strawberries

Firstly, you can't leave plant mulch on the bed for the winter. If you don't remove it, the strawberry roots may start to rot.

Secondly, if the autumn is not very rainy, the strawberries need to be watered before covering.

When frosts come, the soil should not be overdried. Dry, icy soil will not do any good to the roots.

Thirdly, it is extremely important to choose the right covering material. It is better not to use film. The best option is agrofibre, but spruce branches will also work.
