Some perennials need to be covered at the first frost, without waiting for severe frosts.
If this is not done in time, the plants may die. Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, tells us which crops are covered first.
The first thing you need to do is cover heat-loving plants – strawberries, irises, roses, begonias, dahlias, phlox, gladioli.
Their above-ground part begins to freeze already at -5 degrees. If the night temperature drops to -3-4 degrees, it's time to cover.
Use spunbond or lutrasil as a covering material.
It is also necessary to cover crops planted in the winter with lutrasil, film or spruce branches.
