Many people have started using mulch in their gardens because it has proven its benefits.

In hot weather, the layer prevents plants from “overheating” and experiencing a lack of liquid, and in cold weather, on the contrary, it has a warming effect.

However, Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert at the online publication BelNovosti, a landscape designer and agronomist, reminds us that it is important to adhere to certain rules.

What do they consist of?

Layer thickness

If you start laying down a layer of mulch that is too thin, it will be of little use. It should be quite voluminous and dense.

It is believed that the thickness should not be less than six centimeters. This volume can be called optimal.

Is it necessary to remove the layer?

Many novice gardeners do not know what to do with mulch at the beginning or end of the season. Some begin to think that the layer has fulfilled its purpose and can now be removed with a clear conscience. This is a misconception.

On the contrary, mulch will only improve the composition and quality of the soil if you do not remove it.

When planting, you just need to make room for the holes, and then put the mulch layer back in place. You can safely send new mulch on top.

Is it worth digging in mulch?

This action is not only useless, but also has the potential to cause problems in the garden area. Therefore, do not try to dig in the mulch.

It works great with just touching the ground.
