When 6-7 leaves (cotyledons do not count) are formed, white cabbage begins to form heads.
According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , the beginning of setting depends on the ripening time.
For example, early varieties and hybrids begin to form heads of cabbage 40-45 days after the emergence of seedlings (if you grow cabbage through seedlings) or 15-18 days in open ground.
In medium-ripening cabbage, heads of cabbage begin to form after 2 months in the first case and 25-35 days in the second.
Finally, the formation of heads of cabbage in late-ripening varieties occurs 80-85 days after the sprouts hatch, which usually falls on August 15-17.
But it also happens that instead of one head of cabbage, several small heads of cabbage form at once.
This happens when the plant's growth point has been damaged. In such a situation, the reserve leaves located in the axils are "activated".
In this case, the summer resident will have to remove the “extra” heads of cabbage, since they affect the overall weight of the harvest.
Unfortunately, it is possible that after such an “operation” the cabbage seedling will die.
