After the fruiting of garden perennial crops has ended, it is too early to give up. It is necessary to carry out a number of important procedures on which the harvest of the next year will depend.
If we talk about currants, then after picking the berries you will have to carry out sanitary pruning, processing, fertilizing and watering the bush.
Let's talk about each action in more detail.
After fruiting, the bushes may require sanitary pruning. Untidy, thick, exhausted bushes are put in order. Shoots damaged by pests and affected by diseases are cut off.
Healthy bushes are pruned to rejuvenate fruit-bearing shoots. Branches older than 4 years are removed in this way. The rest can be postponed until autumn or spring.
It is carried out against diseases and pests. After harvesting berries, chemical and biological preparations can be used.
Against diseases, "Aktara" and "Skor" are used, from biological preparations "Alirina-B", "Gamaira". Against pests, "Bitoxibacillin" and "Fitoverm" are used.
The treatment is carried out on a dry, windless day, no later than 10 am or after sunset.
Wood ash and superphosphate will do (1 tbsp. superphosphate, 1 tbsp. potassium sulfate and 1 glass of ash per 10 liters of water).
It is used for watering on wet soil. Alternative types of fertilizers are also prepared.
In dry weather, after picking the berries, 2-3 buckets of water are poured under an adult blackcurrant bush at intervals of 1 time in 3 weeks. Red currants can be watered 1 time per month.
And closer to autumn, it is necessary to remove the mulch layer so that it does not become a shelter for pests.
