The duration and intensity of lighting are of great importance in the life cycle of violets.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh reminds about the importance of lighting - the right choice in this matter will allow the Saintpaulia to actively grow and bloom throughout almost the entire year.

To understand whether violets like sunlight, it is enough to remember that in nature it grows in a warm climate, where clear sunny days prevail. In such conditions, the plant is illuminated by diffused light with partial darkening.

Hence the conclusion: the best lighting option for Saintpaulia at home is soft, diffused or shaded light lasting from 10 to 13 hours.

Please note: violets are indeed shade-tolerant plants. However, if the daylight hours are less than 8 hours, the plant will stop developing altogether and then die.

What else does Saintpaulia not like?

• Scorching and bright sun. The shelf or stand with pots in which violets grow should definitely be covered with a thick light curtain.

• A window facing south. In this case, it is better to place the flower in the back of the room or in a corner.

• Short daylight hours. If the sun shines for less than 8 hours or has weak ray intensity, which happens in winter, use a phytolamp.
