Onions are one of those crops that are extremely sensitive to shortcomings in the care process.
The watering procedure is especially important, since the taste and size of the vegetable directly depend on it.
Therefore, it is worth knowing the basic rules for adding moisture, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , landscape designer and agronomist, expert of the online publication "BelNovosti".
During this period of development, it is worth adding moisture every seven days. After the procedure, do not forget about loosening and mulching. However, it is worth choosing a smaller option.
If the mulch layer consists of large particles, this increases the risk of diseases and pest attacks.
The number of waterings can be reduced. It is enough to add moisture only three times a month. Make sure that the soil is always moderately moist, as drying out is not the best option for the crop to develop.
It is worth using the spraying method, moistening about twenty centimeters of soil.
However, in the middle of the second summer month, watering can be made even less frequent.
It is at this point that the onion no longer needs additional moisture. Sometimes gardeners stop watering only 14 days before harvesting. This option is also acceptable.
