Thrifty gardeners will never throw away anything that can still be useful for the garden or orchard.

At the start of the summer cottage season, many plot owners wonder what to do with last year’s mulch.

There are at least two good options for using old soil topsoil.

Compost Component

Many summer residents have a place on their plot where they put organic waste: grass, branches, leaves, peelings from fruits or vegetables. This is how valuable fertilizer is prepared – compost.

Last year's mulch is raked up and sent to the compost pit. This way the organic fertilizer will become even more nutritious.

Reuse

This mulch can be used to cover plants again. But one important nuance should be taken into account.

Reusing mulch is unacceptable if the plant had a fungal disease. It is better to get rid of such material so that the disease does not return to the site again.

In other cases, mulch can be reused. It is removed so that the soil warms up faster, and also for more effective application of fertilizers and plant care (pruning, watering, pest control, etc.).
