Gooseberries will be covered with berries: how to feed the bushes after flowering

What gardener doesn’t dream of bushes covered with currants, raspberries, and gooseberries?

The harvest is influenced by various factors, but most of them are influenced by humans. The chosen tactics determine how many berries will be collected in the summer.

So, there will be many times more berries on the gooseberry if you feed the bushes after flowering. But this rule only works with those plants that are more than 3 years old. However, you should not expect a large harvest from old bushes, it is better to replace them with young seedlings.

Fertilizer for gooseberries

After flowering, the bushes wait for "Borofoska". The fertilizer is rich in phosphorus and potassium, which are in a form accessible to plants and are easily absorbed by them.

For each plant, use 2 tablespoons of fertilizer. Make a furrow around the plant, distribute the Borofoska, then cover it with soil and water.

Care tips

To always get a high yield, gooseberries need to be looked after. There are several simple but important steps:

  • digging up the tree trunk circle in autumn (depth 12-15 cm);
  • loosening the soil in spring (depth between rows 10-12 cm, and near bushes – 6-8 cm);
  • mulching (compost, peat, humus);
  • abundant watering, especially after flowering and during drought.

Periodic fertilizing will provide the gooseberry with a supply of nutrients. Thanks to this, the bushes will be covered with berries every season.
