In order for the currant bushes growing on the plot to delight you with an abundant harvest every year, you need to take care to create suitable conditions for them.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh listed the requirements that are imposed on the place of growing currants.
First of all, it is illumination. The area where currant bushes are planned to be planted should be in the sun for at least half of the daylight hours.
Make sure that the groundwater level is at least 1-1.5 m.
The soils should be slightly acidic or neutral, light loamy, fertile.
If the soil is acidic (pH 5-5.5), add lime before planting.
Heavy or sandy soils are amended with organic matter – peat, humus or compost.
It would not hurt to sow green manure here in advance - mustard, rye, oats, rapeseed and others and work them into the soil before flowering.
