Only the lazy have not heard about the need to use mulch in a garden plot.

However, summer residents who resort to this procedure do not always get the desired result. The expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained why this may happen.

There are only two options: either gardeners and vegetable growers are lying about using this method, or they are making mistakes when mulching.

What could go wrong? Firstly, the method will not work if the mulch layer is not thick enough.

Remember: for the shelter to be effective, the mulch thickness should be at least 5-6 cm.

Secondly, the “set it and forget it” principle does not work in this case.

Since organic materials are used in the mulching process, they are absorbed into the soil over time, which is why the mulch should be renewed regularly.

If these two basic requirements are met, you can rest assured that the mulch will retain moisture properly and weeds will not be able to get through.
