When is the best time to cut grape cuttings for rooting in spring: notes for gardeners

Grape cuttings are a simple method of propagation in which a new plant is formed from a part of the mother shoot.
Gardeners take grape cuttings in spring and autumn. In the first case, these are green shoots, and in the second, woody ones.
What kind of winter it was and how the grapes survived it are of great importance. If the cuttings have buds damaged by frost, the shoots will not develop from them.
Cuttings
They should be cut in March at a positive temperature before the sap starts to flow. The cuttings are taken from the lower and middle parts of one-year-old well-ripened shoots.
The thickness of the cuttings should be at least 0.8 cm. But this rule does not apply to varieties with thin vines.
Germination
The easiest way to germinate is to use water. Pour 2-3 cm of liquid into a transparent jar and place the container on a warm windowsill. Change the water every 2-3 days. It will take about 2-3 weeks to force the roots.
