Experienced gardeners can no longer be surprised by ordinary strawberries, but their genuine delight will easily be caused by a hybrid of Chilean and Virginia strawberries.

North and South American plants have produced a unique variety of berries that surpass even the sweetest pineapple in taste.

The breeders' discovery is also interesting to summer residents because such strawberries do not attract birds. The berries ripen peacefully in the beds, and the birds fly past.

The hybrid variety is called "Pineberry". The name was invented by combining two English words: "pineapple" and "strawberry".

This is a remontant garden strawberry, the berries of which are slightly smaller than ordinary strawberries. At first they are green, but as they ripen they become white, and under the influence of sunlight they acquire a pinkish tint.

Pineberry is self-fertile and does not cross-pollinate with other nearby varieties, so it can be safely planted next to regular strawberry varieties.

Why don't birds touch berries? Experts say it's all about the color of the fruit. Birds consider the berries unripe, so they fly past.

Pineberry bears fruit from May to July. On average, one bush can produce up to 1 kg of berries per season.
