Over time, even the most luxurious daffodils can turn into pale semblances of their former selves.
Plants become smaller or stop producing lush buds altogether. There are several mistakes made by summer residents that lead to disastrous results.
Digging up bulbs
Summer residents grow daffodils in the same place for years without digging up the bulbs. However, this procedure should be carried out every 4-5 years.
Otherwise, the bulb will grow a lot of tubers, the roots will become tangled and the plant will stop receiving water and nutrients normally.
Leaf removal
Some gardeners rush to remove leaves. The procedure should not be carried out immediately after the buds have faded. During this period, photosynthesis and other processes continue. The foliage is removed when it withers naturally.
Watering
Daffodils become smaller due to lack of moisture. Flowers need abundant watering not only before the buds open, but also after they fade for 1-2 months.
