As you know, the harvest that you can collect from your own garden is directly related to the acidity of the soil.
An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told about an interesting method that will help determine this indicator without using litmus paper.
What do you need for this? Just a few red cabbage leaves.
First, take a tablespoon of soil, the acidity of which we will determine.
Fill it with 250 ml of water. Important: the liquid must be filtered.
Leave the resulting mixture for 10 minutes, and in the meantime, prepare the red cabbage juice – you only need a little bit – 1 tablespoon.
To extract the juice, you need to finely chop the leaves or grate them on a fine grater, and then grind them (without adding salt). Wear gloves during the procedure to avoid staining your hands.
Now you can strain the soil mixture through thick gauze. Add 3-4 drops of cabbage juice to it, stir and leave for 2 minutes.
If the solution turns red, the soil is acidic. A green solution indicates that the soil is neutral, and a blue color indicates alkaline soil.
