It is no secret that root crops have their own relationship with certain types of fertilizers, and if we talk about carrots, then there is no need to focus on certain types of organic matter if you do not want the carrots to grow “bearded”.

Let's figure out how to properly prepare the soil for sowing carrots.

Organics

It is definitely not advisable to add fresh manure - the carrots will grow horned or with many thin roots. It will be enough to add what was added under the previous crops or under the autumn digging (3 kg per sq. m).

Humus, if not properly calculated in quantity, can also negatively affect the carrot harvest, unless the soil is sandy.

Sand and peat

When preparing bulk beds for carrots, you can add a little sand and the same amount of peat. The main thing is not to increase the acidity of the soil.

Fertilizers

Carrots love potassium and magnesium. Up to 2/3 of the annual norm is added to the soil during preparation. Potassium sulfate or monophosphate, potassium sulfate, potassium magnesium sulfate, etc. are used, but not potassium chloride.

Phosphorus is added at this time at half the total rate. Superphosphate is incorporated into the soil before planting.

The main thing for carrots is loose and light soil, in which they will have room to grow. Otherwise, instead of long root vegetables, you will get hooked and bizarre vegetables.
