Many gardeners, out of ignorance, call leaf humus a fertilizer, but it contains practically no nutrients.

An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained why gardeners and horticulturists are in no hurry to give up using humus on their plots.

Although leaf humus cannot be considered as fertilizer, this does not deprive it of its beneficial properties.

Thus, this “substance” can be used to optimize the soil structure.

In addition, humus is suitable for use as mulch and acidifier.

The main purpose of leaf humus is to condition the soil.

If you saturate the soil with humus, it will gain the ability to retain moisture in the root system of plants for longer, thus helping them out in case of summer drought.

Finally, another extremely important quality of humus is that it is an excellent habitat for earthworms, which, as we know, are good friends of the gardener.
