In the spring, some gardeners for some reason water the soil under the cherry trees with a lime solution. This is not a whim, but a necessary condition, without which a rich harvest of berries is impossible.
The thing is that the so-called lime milk acts as a soil deoxidizer. Let's talk about it in more detail.
Usually lime is added to the hole when planting the seedling. If this was not done, then lime can be added later in the proposed way.
Another option for adding lime is during the process of digging the soil around the tree trunk.
Important! Before starting this work, it is necessary to measure the acidity of the soil and it is better to purchase a special device for this, rather than experimenting in the kitchen with soda and vinegar or guessing by the weeds that have settled on the site.
If the indicator is closer to pH 5.5 to 6, then 300 grams of lime should be added per 1 sq. m of soil. At pH 5, 600-670 grams of lime are required for the same area.
If mineral fertilizers have been applied or are planned to be applied, lime is not used. Wood ash can also be used. However, the consumption increases significantly. About a kilogram of ash is required per square meter of soil. But the advantage is that this way you can feed the cherry with the main elements necessary for normal fruiting - calcium, phosphorus and potassium.
For preparation use slaked lime, slaked lime, chalk or dolomite flour. For 10 liters of water you need to take 1-2 glasses of lime and mix thoroughly. For one adult and fruit-bearing tree add 10 liters of solution per 1 sq. m.
Fertilizer is applied before and after flowering, which helps prevent the ovaries from falling off.
