Many chefs are sure that the bottom layer of herring under a fur coat should be fish.

But this, oddly enough, is not quite the right approach to preparing the dish.

Those gourmets who put the potatoes first are also mistaken.

Yes, this approach allows you to make the dish more “stable” and “solid”: nothing will fall apart.

However, the placement of the potato layer at the bottom does not allow for maximum flavor.

The expert of the online publication Belnovosti in the field of cooking, chef, fourth-class baker Yulia Arkhipova assures gourmets: the bottom layer of the salad should be, oddly enough, beetroot.

How to cook herring under a fur coat

The first layer is beetroot. Place chopped onion on the chopped brown root vegetable.

Only after this can you put the herring, and then the potatoes. The next layers are other components (eg eggs and carrots). The top layer should match the bottom layer - beets.

The beetroot and onion “pillow” located at the bottom makes the salad incredibly tasty: the dish acquires freshness and a rich taste.

And this is explained very simply. Firstly, onions have a positive effect on beets: the latter becomes tender.

Secondly, the taste of the herring is better revealed if the pieces of fish are placed on the above-mentioned “pillow” and under the potatoes.
