If you have ever tried home-salted herring, you are unlikely to go back to buying store-bought.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova, shared a wonderful recipe for salting herring.
For 1 kg of fish you will need:
Pour the water into a saucepan and bring to a boil, then add salt and sugar and throw in the spices.
The marinade should be cooked over low heat for 7-10 minutes.
Defrosted herring should be rinsed under water (no need to clean out the entrails or cut off the head).
Place the fish in a suitable container and pour in the brine, which should be cooled beforehand.
Place the herring on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator for three days, after which it can be taken out and cut up in the usual way.
It will be especially tasty if you cut the herring into pieces and mix it with pickled onions. In addition, such fish can be put on sandwiches or added to salads.
