How to freeze raspberries: few people know the rules - almost everyone makes mistakes

Many housewives do not pay due attention to the process of freezing berries, including raspberries. They simply place them in containers and put them in the freezer.

As a result, as the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova, says, the berries stick together, become covered with frost and turn into an unappetizing frozen lump.

It is very difficult to separate stuck together berries; you have to defrost the entire lump, use the required amount, and then freeze it again – obviously, this does not benefit the taste or appearance of the berries.

If you don't want to face this problem, try to freeze berries correctly.

Don't wash raspberries

It is strictly not recommended to wash raspberries before freezing, because this berry absorbs water almost instantly and becomes soggy.

During the freezing process, water turns into ice crystals inside the berries. Because the liquid expands during the freezing process, the delicate raspberries burst.

Sort the raspberries

During the sorting process, separate the crushed berries from the whole ones - the latter can be stored in the freezer, and it is better to make jam from the crushed ones or beat them with a blender.

Use proper freezing

Instead of placing the berries in containers in the freezer, spread them out on a flat surface in a single layer, freeze them, and then transfer them to containers.

Take small containers

It is recommended to use small containers for freezing raspberries – this way you will be able to defrost the required amount of berries conveniently. Place the prepared raspberries in small containers, making sure that the lid does not press on the berries and there is free space on top.
