Real kvass should taste invigorating and refreshing – unfortunately, not all drinks from the store meet this “requirement”.

However, there is no need to be upset, because now you have a recipe for real kvass that you can make at home – it was shared by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova .

For this you will need the following ingredients:

  • water – 3 liters;
  • black bread – 300 g;
  • sugar – 5 tablespoons;
  • yeast – 1 teaspoon (you can use dry fast-acting yeast).

Optionally, you can add kvass wort or dry kvass to improve the fermentation process.
But whether to add raisins or not, decide for yourself: not everyone likes its taste.

Cut the black bread into pieces and toast them in the oven until crispy. If the bread burns, no problem: the darker it is, the richer the color of the kvass will be.

Place the crackers in a jar, add sugar and yeast.

Heat the water to about 60-70 degrees and pour it into the jar. Cover the container with gauze.

Leave the kvass at room temperature for 3 to 5 days. After the specified time, drain the finished drink, leaving some of the starter in the jar. Add a new portion of sugar and crackers and fill with water again.

The second and subsequent times, the kvass can be drained after 1-3 days.

For better fermentation, many housewives add a couple of pieces of regular white bread.
