What to cook for Maslenitsa and Maslenitsa week: not just pancakes – see off winter deliciously

Who does not know the joyful holiday of farewell to winter, which is called Maslenitsa. But few people know what exactly needs to be cooked during these days.

In fact, the holiday table is not limited to pancakes and fritters.

Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Yulia Arkhipova , a cook and fourth-class baker, told what kind of menu can be made for Maslenitsa week.

There are no restrictions at all, but it is generally accepted to bake pancakes, make dumplings, and even cook porridge or stew cabbage. But first things first.

Monday

The first day of the festive week is considered to be the meeting of Maslenitsa. It is customary to serve buckwheat porridge or potato pancakes with sour cream or melted butter.

Tuesday

On this day, it is customary to serve dishes made from cottage cheese, and in some traditions, stewed cabbage with meat.

Wednesday

On this day, it was customary to treat family and guests with pies, pastries and other homemade baked goods with a variety of fillings.

Thursday

People called this day "razgulyai" (a day of revelry), since it was today that mass festivities began, but the main ingredient of this day is fish. You can boil fish soup, cook rasstegai (pies) or bake a fish pie.

Friday

Today they prepare baked goods with cottage cheese – vatrushki, sochniki and other delicacies.

Saturday

Don't be lazy and make some vareniki. The filling can be different - berries, potatoes, mushrooms. And hospitable housewives also cooked rich borscht.

Sunday

It was on this day that pancakes with and without filling, fritters, kulebyaki, gingerbread and everything the housewife was capable of would appear on the table. In the Orthodox world, this day is known as Forgiveness Sunday.
