Unfortunately, there is no single sign by which you can understand that the watermelon in front of you is ripe.
Instead, you should be guided by a whole complex of signs, which we will talk about today.
So, the first thing you need to pay attention to is the appearance of the watermelon. If the fruit has reached maturity, it will be painted in bright saturated colors.
Try scraping the skin with your fingernail - there should be nothing left underneath, the fingernail should slide over the skin.
In addition, it is necessary to assess the condition of the stalk, which is supposed to be dry.
If you hit a ripe watermelon with your knuckles, you will hear a ringing sound. A slap with your palm will result in vibration. However, these two signs do not always work: even with a dull sound and no vibration, the watermelon may be sweet.
Finally, take a look at the spot that is sure to be on one side of the watermelon.
If it is yellow, you can safely take the berry. A white tint indicates that the watermelon is not ripe yet.
