A ripe avocado has very tender flesh, and its color changes depending on storage conditions.
At first you may notice dark spots, and then entire sections of the fruit darken. Is it possible to eat such an avocado and why does it darken at all?
Experts explained why this happens and how to do the right thing.
Avocados turn dark as a result of improper storage.
If desired, dark spots can be cut out with a knife, but if the fruit has darkened by half or more, its taste may be unpleasant and even bitter.
You should also avoid this idea if you have digestive problems such as bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.
The reason is a substance contained in the dark pulp (sorbitol), which can increase gas formation and pain symptoms.
1. If you want to keep a cut avocado green, sprinkle it with lemon juice.
2. The part of the fruit that you are not going to use should be stored in the refrigerator and only with the pit.
3. Brush the avocado flesh with olive oil – the more the better – and store in an airtight container.
