Do you feel a sore throat, your nose is starting to get stuffy, and your body is overcome by a treacherous weakness? It's clear: you probably have a cold.

And during the treatment of the disease, it is important not only to take the medications prescribed by the doctor and go into rest mode, but also to change some things in your diet.

What foods consumed during a cold can only worsen the course of the disease?

When you're sick, you want to feel sorry for yourself and treat yourself to something sweet and tasty... If you have this desire, try to brush it off. And it's not even that by eating cakes or candies while lying in bed, you risk gaining extra pounds.

Sugar from sweet treats can stimulate internal inflammatory processes that the body does not need at all now: fighting them, it will waste energy and resources, and recovery from a cold will be delayed. Even throat lozenges are better to choose those that do not contain sugar.

Salty and fatty foods are also on the black list during a cold. Salt irritates the mucous membranes of the throat, which are already inflamed, and fatty meat, fried potatoes and sandwiches with lard are additional work for the stomach, because it is not so easy to digest so much fat.

Be kind to your digestive system and choose lighter foods that are easy to digest.

Cheese is one of the products that is included in the diet of many people. It gives the body protein, calcium and B vitamins. But at the same time, eating it during a cold will not help to overcome inflammation in the throat, runny nose and muscle pain. Therefore, snacking on a cheese sandwich while you are sick is not the best idea.

Are you feeling drained and having trouble getting out of bed because of your illness? Don't even try to perk up with coffee: it removes water from the body, and dehydration worsens your overall condition.

Water is a substance that dissolves toxins formed during the death of pathogenic bacteria and promotes their excretion with sweat and urine. And if you drink coffee instead of herbal teas and fruit drinks, the toxins will linger in the body and poison it.

The same goes for energy drinks. When you have a cold, your body works at the limit of its capabilities, fighting bacteria or viruses, and if you also spur it on with energy drinks with a lot of caffeine, you can make your health worse. Heart problems, dizziness, loss of strength - that's what you will definitely feel. Especially since energy drinks are usually carbonated, and drinking carbonated drinks during a cold will irritate a sore throat.

Is it okay to eat fruit when you have a cold? Citrus fruits - definitely yes, because a dose of vitamin C won't hurt now. But it's better to avoid tasty and ripe bananas and start eating them only after you've recovered. Why?

Eating bananas stimulates the production of histamine, a substance that can cause such phenomena as bronchial spasms, diarrhea, and muscle cramps. You must admit that you don’t need such sensations during illness. And the abundance of sugars in banana pulp can’t be called a beneficial factor either.

What should you eat then? Chicken broth, low-fat yogurts, kefir, fermented baked milk, baked apples, oatmeal, some types of lean fish, garlic, ginger - these products will help you get back on your feet and close your sick leave soon. But don't force yourself if a cold has taken away your appetite: this is a normal reaction of the body.
