A Russian nutritionist has told us who should not get carried away with drinking one of the main summer refreshing drinks – kvass.
Despite all the beneficial qualities of kvass, it also has contraindications, failure to comply with which is fraught with not the most favorable consequences.
Nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg spoke in an interview with Moscow 24 about who should not drink kvass.
First of all, the doctor addresses patients with stomach diseases. They are not recommended to drink store-bought or even homemade kvass.
Firstly, store-bought products often contain a large amount of sugar – this is a well-known way to attract consumers.
However, consuming it in large quantities leads to an increase in blood glucose levels.
Kvass with excess sugar is not recommended for diabetics. The traditional drink, which is prepared at home, usually has little sugar, Mikhail Ginzburg also reminds.
Secondly, there are cases when kvass of any kind, both homemade and store-bought, is contraindicated.
This concerns gastrointestinal diseases. In this case, drinking the drink leads to stomach irritation, which can result in an exacerbation or increase in symptoms of the disease.
