The liver is one of the most important organs in the body, and nutrition greatly affects its function.

Experts say that about 25% of the world's adult population suffers from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Liver disease can be prevented by a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

What harms the liver

1. Red meat

Many people love red meat. Although, in fact, there are many reasons to limit your consumption of steaks and burgers: from excess weight and heart disease to negative effects on the liver. Research confirms the link between high consumption of red meat and an increased risk of chronic liver disease, as well as an increased risk of liver cancer.

If you already have certain disorders in the functioning of the liver, then you should completely give up or strictly limit the amount of red meat, which contains a lot of saturated fats.

Otherwise, there is a risk that the liver will stop performing its basic functions, such as removing toxins from the body. It is better to limit red meat consumption to 1 time per week.

2. Fried chicken

Just like red meat, breaded fried chicken is very high in saturated fat. This is because when deep-fried, the food absorbs a lot of the fat and calories from the oil.

Moderate consumption of fried foods should not be a serious problem for healthy people, but chronic abuse of such products leads to liver damage.

3. White bread, pasta, rice

If you have a choice between whole grain and white bread, pasta, rice, flour, etc., choose the former - if not because of the high gluten content, then for the sake of liver health.

Processed carbohydrates, which are grains that have been highly processed and contain little to no fiber, have a high glycemic index.

High GI foods cause spikes in blood sugar levels, which leads to problems with insulin production. Regular abuse of such foods leads to insulin resistance.

The latter, in turn, increases the likelihood of developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, since the body's cells do not respond to insulin properly, which leads to its accumulation in the blood.

4. Potato chips

Eating too much salty food, such as potato chips, is bad for your liver. Research shows that too much salt in your diet can cause your cells to die and not divide properly, which can lead to fibrosis.

Liver fibrosis means that the organ is not working properly. The scary thing is that liver fibrosis can develop without any obvious symptoms until the situation becomes too serious.
