Brain health can deteriorate with age.
Previously, experts assumed that the process begins after 25 years.
But new findings were recently published in Nature Neuroscience , based on data collected over nearly 20 years.
As it turns out, problems most often begin when a person is 30-40 years old.
The authors analyzed the indicators of active brain zones in 74 people of different ages.
It has become known that with the passage of time, connections in the brain become faster. If in a 4-year-old child they are two meters per second, then in the period from 30 to 40 years they become equal to four meters per second.
The frontal lobe takes longer to develop than the part responsible for movement.
The scientists also noted that such research will help for future work, for a better understanding of the central nervous system and the construction of more accurate computer models of the brain for further study.
