Tulle can not only get dirty from the touch of unwashed hands, but also turn yellow with time or turn gray from washing.
Despite this, it can be washed, or more precisely bleached, without much effort and harmful chlorine. This method was practiced by Soviet housewives.
The product costs mere pennies, but it copes with the task no worse than expensive household chemicals.
How to proceed
1. First of all, you need to wash the curtains in cool water with regular washing powder.
If you wash in hot water, the grease and dirt will be absorbed even more into the material.
2. After washing, add 5 tablespoons of regular salt to a basin with three liters of clean warm water.
Soak the washed tulle in this solution and leave for 2 hours.
It is said that salt helps to whiten fabric that has turned yellow or grey from washing.
3. After bleaching, prepare a solution of 9% vinegar (2 tablespoons per 3 liters of warm water) and rinse the curtains in it.
The last procedure will wash away any remaining fat and leave the fabric shiny, radiant and crystal clear.
