In the flower industry, as is well known, the practice of prolonging the life of wilting flowers with the help of chemicals is widespread.
Flower expert Svetlana Gorkunova explains how to tell if roses were recently cut and not resuscitated.
Her recommendations are cited by Gazeta.Ru .
How to Choose Fresh Roses
As Gorkunova explained, the first thing you need to do is pay attention to the bud.
It should be dense and elastic. In old roses, the bud is soft and limp, and may have a slight tilt.
The first ring of petals often loses its brightness and natural color, the expert noted.
If the base of the bud is large and the bud itself is not, the outer petals have been removed.
The color of the base of the bud is also important; it should be deep green.
Secondly, the leaves and stem. The leaves should be firm and shiny, tightly attached to the stem.
If the stem is soft or bends too easily, the flower has lost its freshness, Gorkunova said.
Third, you can smell the flower. Freshly cut roses have a rich aroma.
The expert also recommended paying attention to the weight of the rose. Fresh flowers are usually heavier.
