Brass is often used to make candlesticks.
If you inherited this particular accessory from your grandmother, you need to know how to clean wax from this metal so that it retains its color and shine.
The first thing to do is to remove any stubborn stains or streaks.
While mild soap foam can easily deal with traces of grease, this product is not able to remove wax or paraffin stains.
But don't even think about using a knife when cleaning. A sharp object will leave scratches. They will eventually fill with dirt, so it's better to choose another method, for example, one of those described below.
Freezer
Place the candlestick in the freezer overnight and when you take it out, tap it lightly on the table.
Rub any remaining marks vigorously with a lint-free cloth – they should come off easily.
Hot water
An equally effective assistant can be hot water, in which you should leave the candlestick for 0.5-1 hour.
Then take it out and wipe it with a cloth soaked in hot water. The heat causes the wax to soften and separate from the surface.
If you are not satisfied with the result, dip the item in water again. Please note: this method is not suitable for varnished items.
