Storing cereals in plastic containers can spoil their taste.
This was warned by Maria Zolotareva, senior lecturer at the Department of Biotechnology and Industrial Pharmacy at RTU MIREA.
An expert told the publication “Lenta.ru” how to store cereals.

How to store cereals correctly
As Zolotareva explained, it is best to store cereals in glass or ceramic containers.
Plastic containers should be used with caution, the biotechnologist warned.
Low-quality plastic, the expert explained, can release substances that impair the taste and smell of cereals.
In addition, fatty cereals such as millet and oatmeal cannot be stored in plastic containers.
Metal containers are also not the best choice. If made of low-quality metal, they can rust and give the cereal a metallic taste.
Zolotareva noted that each cereal has its own requirements for packaging.
For example, grain crops (buckwheat, rice, oats, wheat) require airtight containers, as they are susceptible to microorganisms and moisture.
Legumes, on the other hand, need good ventilation, otherwise condensation will form.
Nuts should be stored in a dark place in vacuum packaging: they are rich in fats, which spoil when exposed to oxygen and light.
