Beets, like all root vegetables, require special attention, otherwise it will not be possible to store them for a long time.
Over the winter it may rot or shrivel, but these problems can be avoided.
Beetroot is not the easiest vegetable to store for a long time. But if you follow 3 rules, everything will work out.
Rule number one
It is necessary to harvest beets correctly. This means that the vegetables cannot be thrown or hit, otherwise damage to the skin and pulp will lead to the development of pathogenic organisms.
As a result, vegetables will begin to rot in the cellar, despite ideal storage conditions.
The second rule
Beets prepared for storage require special conditions.
First of all, this is the humidity level, which should not exceed 90%.
In a dry room, the beets will begin to dry out and soon wrinkle.
But if the humidity level in the cellar is off the charts, it needs to be reduced by leaving containers with lime or salt in the room.
The third rule
The room where beets are stored must have good ventilation.
Otherwise, mold will appear. Soon after the fungus appears, the harvest will start to deteriorate.
