If you don't want your cast iron cookware to develop rusty spots, make sure to take proper care of it.
Preventing Corrosion of Cast Iron Cookware
1. Do not wash cast iron items in the dishwasher – due to the strong chemicals, the non-stick layer will be destroyed, and as a result, the metal will become vulnerable to corrosion.
2. Use the cast iron skillet only for cooking. Do not store food in it - instead, transfer it to glass or plastic containers.
3. Do not leave the pan wet - after you wash the dishes, be sure to wipe them dry.
4. Cast iron cookware may only be stored in dry places with good ventilation.
5. If the dishes are very dirty, you can soak them – but only for a short time. Fill them with warm soapy water and after a while rinse, removing food residues with a soft sponge.
6. Do not use aggressive chemicals and abrasives for cleaning; they can only be used to remove rust stains, and then rarely.
