Belarus is experiencing a period of Great Heat. In this regard, the Ministry of Health of the Republic has given useful recommendations to citizens.
The advice was published by the department's press service on its official Telegram channel.
Please note: by following the simple rules listed below, Belarusians will be able to avoid the undesirable consequences of the heat, including illness.
Accordingly, the summer mood will not be spoiled. So, below are the recommendations in detail.
Street
Limit your time outdoors and try to avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
If you do find yourself outdoors, try to stay in the shade as much as possible.
Avoid going outside during the hottest time of day.
When leaving the house, you should wear a hat and sunglasses.
In hot weather, it is recommended to wear only light and loose clothing made from natural fabrics.
Food and water
Experts advise eating less caloric foods and avoiding fatty foods altogether, while meat consumption should be kept to a minimum.
It is recommended to avoid eating during the hottest hours – it is better to eat in the morning and evening.
In hot weather you need to drink enough water. You can drink mineral water or fruit drink.
Low-fat fermented milk drinks, dried fruit infusions, and vitamin-enriched drinks will also help.
But carbonated drinks, liquids with high sugar content, energy drinks and alcohol should be avoided.
It is important to remember that people with kidney and cardiovascular diseases should not sharply increase their fluid intake, the Ministry of Health warned.
Food products
When buying perishable products (semi-finished meat products, cooked sausages, salads, dairy products, cakes, etc.), pay attention to expiration dates and storage conditions.
If the expiration date has passed or there is a suspicion that the refrigeration equipment is not working efficiently, do not purchase these products.
It is important to know: the packaging of dairy and fermented milk products, juices, industrially produced salads, etc. indicates the expiration date, calculated on condition that the integrity of the packaging and storage conditions are maintained.
If the packaging is opened or damaged, the shelf life of these products is significantly reduced.
Food should be purchased from permanent retail outlets.
Do not buy products in questionable retail outlets or unauthorized trading locations, including those located along highways, the ministry advises.
If you feel unwell, such as having a stomach ache, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, do not prepare food for family or guests. Seek medical attention immediately.
Outdoor recreation
If you take perishable food with you, transport it in a cooler bag.
Avoid foods that have not been heat treated.
You should also avoid taking dairy products, eggs, and confectionery products with cream with you – in hot weather, they are all an excellent environment for the development of pathogenic microbes.
Remember: products must be protected from insects, rodents, and other animals.
If you are relaxing by a lake or a river, you can only swim in places that are officially permitted for this.
When bathing, try not to swallow water.
Hygiene
Before preparing and eating food, wash your hands with soap or treat them with a special disinfectant.
By the way, you should wash vegetables and fruits, as well as dishes, only with bottled or boiled water.
If you are on vacation, refrain from using water from random sources for drinking and household purposes.
Also, you should not use ice to cool drinks.
