What to do if your shoes squeak when you walk: 5 ways to solve the problem in the shortest possible time

There are many methods for eliminating squeaky shoes.

True, you won’t find a universal “recipe”, since some of them are intended for the sole, others for the heel, and others for the upper material and fasteners.

However, nothing prevents you from “combining” different methods, and you will find the five most effective of them in this article.

Fat

Fat has long been used to soften shoe material. In the army, for example, tarpaulin boots were greased with pork fat to eliminate squeaking and protect against moisture.

At home, you can use any fat - badger, goose and others. The fat is applied in a thick layer to the sole, bending places and seams overnight, then washed off.

Oils

Coconut, olive, sunflower, and vaseline oils are excellent for softening shoe leather. Smooth and patent leather is treated with oils for 8 hours, then washed off with soapy water and allowed to dry.

Drying oil

A few drops of hot drying oil should be applied to the sole and rubbed in well – this simple method also helps eliminate squeaking.

Heat

Sometimes heating the shoes with a hair dryer helps to get rid of the squeak. Under the influence of heat, the shoes soften.

WD-40

WD-40 is a general purpose lubricant that can be used on a variety of parts including zippers, hinges and shoe soles.

Before using WD-40, it is recommended to test on an inconspicuous area of the shoe to ensure there are no unwanted effects.
