Lighting and operating a fireplace is a process that requires certain skills.

1. Make sure the ash pan is empty and the fireplace door is open for ventilation.
2. Check that the draft is good enough and that the smoke can freely exit through the chimney. A lit match will help to do this.
3. Arrange the wood to allow good air circulation and help the fire spread throughout the fireplace.
This is usually done in a pyramid shape, with the largest logs at the base, medium-sized wood in the center, and small wood chips on top.
4. Start by lighting small pieces of wood, paper or special fire starters. But be careful: if you don’t have enough experience, it’s better to avoid using special fire starters.
