Over time, your washing machine may start to make noise, vibrate, spin poorly, or leave an unpleasant odor on your clothes.
To avoid these problems, you don’t have to call a mechanic or buy a new car.
There are simple and inexpensive ways to improve the performance of your washing machine with your own hands. Here are four ways to help you do it.
Clean the filter and pump
The filter and pump of the washing machine are responsible for removing dirt, hair and other particles from the drum.
If they get clogged, the machine will not wash or spin well and will make loud noises. To clean the filter and pump, you will need a screwdriver, a bucket, a rag, and a brush.
Follow the instructions for your machine model, unscrew and remove the filter, place it in a bucket of water and wash it with a brush.
Also check and clean the pump from foreign objects. After that, install the filter in place and screw it on.
Install anti-vibration pads
Anti-vibration pads are special devices that reduce vibration and noise from the washing machine. They are usually made of rubber or plastic and have suction cups or Velcro for attaching to the floor.
You can buy them at a hardware store or make your own from old rugs or sponges. Just place them under the feet of the machine to make sure it is level and still.
Use baking soda and vinegar to clean the drum
Over time, scale, fungus, bacteria and mold can build up in the drum of your washing machine, causing unpleasant odors and ruining your clothes.
To get rid of them, you will need baking soda and vinegar. Mix half a glass of baking soda with half a glass of vinegar and add to the powder compartment.
Run the machine at the highest temperature without laundry. Repeat the procedure once a month for prevention.
Replace the sealing rubber
The sealing rubber is an element that ensures the tightness of the washing machine door.
If it is damaged, water may leak out of the machine and onto the floor.
In addition, the elastic band can accumulate residues of powder, hair and dirt, which also contribute to the appearance of odor and stains on the laundry.
To replace the sealing rubber, you will need a screwdriver, pliers, a new rubber and silicone sealant.
Follow the instructions for your model of machine, unscrew and remove the door, disconnect the rubber from the drum and door, install a new rubber and fix it with sealant. Then screw the door back.
