So, to fluff up heavily trampled pile, you will need... cold!
If there is a snowy winter outside, the task becomes much easier. All you need to do is roll up the rug, take it outside, spread it face up, and then rub it with snow.
Don't forget to take a broom with you - you will need it when you sweep the used snow off the carpet.
All that remains is to shake the mat thoroughly and dry it.
If forecasters do not predict precipitation in the form of snow, try using frozen ice cubes from the freezer.
Place them on the jammed areas, and when the ice melts, vacuum the carpet.
