Previously, in the absence of worthy analogues, this drug could be easily found in any medicine cabinet.
Nowadays, iodine is not nearly as popular as it used to be.
However, experienced housewives will always have a bottle, because it can be used not only as an antiseptic.
How can iodine be used?
If water is in doubt
Few people know that there is a simple and safe method for disinfecting water. A bucket of liquid can be made suitable and safe for consumption with just two drops of iodine.
Did you buy quality sour cream?
We want to believe that shopping in a store is always safe, but this does not always meet our expectations. For example, some manufacturers add starch to the composition of fermented milk products.
This sour cream cannot be called high-quality.
You can separate some sour cream, add iodine and wait a few minutes. If the product suddenly turns blue, you should not eat it: it definitely contains starch.
A similar trick with honey
Few people know that sometimes additional ingredients are added to honey, depriving it of its beneficial properties. Most often, we are talking about the use of wheat flour or potato starch.
Iodine will again help to identify low-quality starch.
You will need to take some honey and stir it in a mug of water. Then add iodine again and evaluate the color of the liquid. If you notice a blue tint again, then the honey cannot be called high-quality.
