It is no secret that homemade minced meat makes the most delicious and mouth-watering cutlets.

This is why housewives regularly start an electric or use a mechanical meat grinder, the blades of which lose their former sharpness over time.

The need arises - to buy new ones or sharpen the old ones. In the second case, there is also a choice - to do everything yourself or ask for help from the masters.

It is quite possible to sharpen meat grinder knives at home. Even the average housewife can restore their former sharpness.

Important nuances

To ensure that the work does not lead to undesirable consequences, a number of points must be taken into account.

1. Experts do not recommend beginners to use a power tool for sharpening. There is a possibility of choosing the wrong angle.

2. The grinding process should be carried out on a smooth surface so that the parts of the tools fit together better. This will help to achieve the highest quality result.

3. If the part is hot, do not cool it with water.

4. Both the cross-shaped knife and the round knife should be sharpened.

5. Blades must be thoroughly washed and dried before and after sharpening.

Sharpening methods

1. Sandpaper will help to restore the sharpness of the meat grinder blades. But in this case, you will need products marked P120, 150, 180. The sandpaper is moistened and placed on a hard surface.

Sharpening is done with slow sliding movements. The knife is carried out from the cutting side (a double-sided knife is ground from both sides, spending 3 minutes on each). Then you need to take fine-grained sandpaper and go over it again.

2. Sandpaper can be replaced with a grinding stone. This option is simpler. The tool also needs to be moistened with water, and then run over it with a knife blade with a little pressure for 3 minutes.

It is important that the stone is flat, without any indentations, otherwise this will affect the quality of the work done.

3. A file with a fine notch. The blade is placed at an angle of 30° to the tool and the knives are sharpened with smooth movements. The file is good because it can restore the sharpness of even a heavily worn part.
