Wood is a material that always looks beautiful and tasteful.
Sometimes homeowners don't want to wallpaper their walls and paint them with regular topcoat paint that will hide the natural beauty of the wood.
Do you need to paint wooden walls
Painting is necessary not only outside the house, but also inside. It has both a decorative and protective function.
The material on the facade is exposed to the external environment (sun, dampness, fungus, insects), which quickly leads to the walls losing their original appearance. Paint helps protect the facade from premature aging and deterioration.
Inside the room, the walls are less exposed to external influences, but still, over time, the original characteristics change.
Wood loses color, in places where the sun shines more, fading may be noticeable, in damp rooms, high humidity is a negative factor, which leads to mold. And visually, an unpainted wall looks as if the renovation in the house is not finished.
If you want to preserve the natural wood grain but paint the wall completely, you should choose a suitable coating.
How to paint walls
Before painting, you need to carefully prepare the surface. If it is a new building, then it is enough to go over the surface with a grinder to remove irregularities, resin drips, scratches. Grinding also opens the pores, which subsequently helps the paint composition penetrate the wood structure more easily.
Paints can be impregnating (do not create a layer on the surface, but impregnate the wood) and film-forming (form a film on the surface). To emphasize the natural pattern of wood, you should choose impregnating compounds. As a rule, these are oils and waxes for wood.
You can also use varnishes. They emphasize the natural beauty of the wood and protect it from external influences. But if such a coating is damaged, you will have to remove the varnish from the entire wall and repaint it.
When using oil or wax, you can sand the damaged area and repaint only it.
Any paint composition must be applied in several layers, waiting for the preliminary layer to dry well. The time varies depending on the specific composition, so information must be looked for on the can or on the manufacturer's website.
