How to drain pasta after cooking: it's a piece of cake with a toothpick

Even a primary school student knows that after cooking pasta, the water must be drained.

For this, use a colander, or at worst, a sieve. Sometimes you don't have either. Here you have to get out of it and drain the liquid through a crack or somehow hold the lid on the pan.

The problem is that it is not so easy to adjust the width of the hole. The lid slides off and either completely covers the drain or opens so much that the pasta starts to fall into the sink.

This life hack will be appreciated by everyone: from bachelors and students to experienced housewives who threw a colander into the dishwasher, forgetting that there was a pot of spaghetti on the stove.

What you will need

To drain the water after cooking the pasta, you will need a wooden skewer, a toothpick, or even a burnt match – you won’t have to light anything anyway.

Here's what you need to do: Take a skewer or toothpick, insert it into the hole between the edge of the pan and press down with the lid.

The toothpick will act as a stop and will not allow the lid to slide to the side, and even the thinnest noodles will not slip through such a narrow hole.
