Removing old paint from the façade of a house will require time and patience.

There are no quick and effective ways to remove old coating. But there are methods that simplify the process and make it as effective as possible.

Below are some tips from experts that will help you remove old paint from the facade of a building.

Tip number one: don't complicate things

If the paint is very old, cracked and easily peels off the surface, then the easiest way to scrape it off is with a spatula. This is the easiest, fastest and safest way.

If the paint sticks tightly in some areas, you should use one of the methods described below.

Tip two: don’t skimp on the remover

Beginners in repair often save on paint strippers. At first glance, everything is logical: it is better to save on the remover, because it is not paint, the quality of which determines the appearance.

But in reality, a cheap paint stripper not only removes the coating poorly, but can also damage the wood. And it often forms a film on the wall. This film is difficult to remove, and if you paint over it, the new paint does not lay down and does not hold well.

Tip three: choose the right disk

If you decide to remove paint with a grinder, it is important to choose the right disc. Test several options and choose the one that removes paint but causes minimal damage to the wall itself. Experienced craftsmen most often prefer a segmented turbocharged disc with a grain size of P24. It removes the coating fairly quickly, causes minimal damage to the wood. And it does not break down very quickly.

Tip number four: choose the right remover

Using a wash allows you to remove the coating quite easily. Even a woman can handle it. But it is important to choose the right product. For the facade, a product with a thick gel consistency is better. The gel will not flow down the vertical surface, unlike a liquid composition.

Tip 5: Use Heat

Thermal removal is slow, but the most cost-effective and efficient. If you have a hair dryer, use it.

All you need to do is heat up a small area of the work surface and separate the paint from the wood with a spatula. The process is slow, but there are no chemicals or dust.

You don't have to buy a heat gun. Maybe someone you know or a neighbor has one and would be willing to lend you the tool for a while.

It is important not to limit yourself to one method. It is best to combine them. For example, peel off the bulk of the paint with a spatula, then heat the remaining large painted areas with a hair dryer or treat with a paint stripper. And then clean off the remaining paint with a grinder.
