The new variant of coronavirus that is taking over the planet – XEC – is a topic that also worries Belarusians.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic recently made an official statement on this matter.
The department's press service reported on its Telegram channel that the above-mentioned variant of COVID-19 has not yet been identified in Belarus.
Please note: specialists from the Research Institute of Hygiene, Toxicology, Epidemiology, Virology and Microbiology of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health are constantly monitoring the emergence of new variants of coronavirus in the country.
The country, the press service points out, has all the necessary equipment to conduct diagnostic tests for coronavirus (its various variations).
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that given the fact that the virus is highly genetically diverse, the classification of strains may change over time.
As for the XEC variant, it was first identified in Germany in June of this year.
To date, there are known cases of “activity” of this variation of COVID in a number of countries, including the USA, Great Britain, Denmark, etc.
The ministry added that XEC arose as a result of the recombination of two other strains of coronavirus – Omicron and FLIRT.
