It has become known that the best tennis player in Belarus and the world, Aryna Sabalenka, will end this year as the world's number one tennis player.
It is certain that no one will be able to displace our compatriot from her leading position.
By the way, she will end the season as number one on the planet for the first time in her career.
That this would be the case and not otherwise became known after the Belarusian’s main competitor for leadership, the Polish Iga Swiatek, lost at the final women’s tournament in Riyadh on November 5.
The world's second-ranked player lost to American Cori Gauff, who is ranked third in the world, in her second match at this competition (3:6 and 4:6).
Thus, regardless of the outcome of the remaining matches in the tournament, the Belarusian will remain the world's number one tennis player by the end of 2024.
Let us add that today, November 6, Sabalenka, who advanced to the semi-finals ahead of schedule, will play against the world's 5th-ranked player, Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan.
The latter lost all chances of advancing from the group.
Italian Yasmin Paolini (4) and Chinese Zheng Qinwen (7) will compete for second place in the semifinals. Both girls previously lost to the Belarusian.
The final match of the tournament with a record prize pool of $15.25 million is scheduled for November 9.
The winner of the competition will earn at least $4.45 million. And if she does not lose even once during the tournament, she will receive $5.15 million + 1,500 rating points.
